Mazak QT 15 Alarm 14 Drive alarm z axis

    Hello all!

I seem to have an issue with my mazak. This morning the Z axis started acting up. Doesn't matter if its moving or not, but every so often it will make a horrible grinding noise and the load meter will register. It got progressively worse until it finally alarmed out.

    Any suggestions?

    Counter balance?
Try it with the motor disconnected from load.

I'm not sure what you mean by counter balance.
I talked to Mazak, and they walked me through some things. Turns out the encoders are the same for x and z, so I swapped them. Bet unfortunately the problem remains at Z. Now it looks like it's either the motor or the drive.

Turns out it was the drive. <sigh> So, in three to five business days and $2100 Mitsubishi will have it fixed.

The day before it crapped out, there was a thunderstorm. I broke my own rule about shutting everything down and worked through the storm. At one point everything dimmed - lights, lathe rpm's, etc. I bet thats what took it out.
