    g76 THREADING what is "UN"

    hey there
I was wondering what "UN" means when written after the diameter of the thread cut. is it the same as TPI?
i am trying to find out my Depth of cuts and minor DIA and Chamfer DIA but the #s don't add up to what the autocad diagram has shown here.
i used to calculate this with TPI like a 3/4-10 TPI external internal what have you but now i got 1-16UN or 1.5-16UN in another place where the calculations don't match.
    thanks.

As for depth of cut, you finalize by measuring with a thread micrometer, or a regular micrometer and thread wires, but in general, the depth of cut can be calculated for a 60 degree thread profile by using the formula P/tan30 where P is the pitch in inches. For example, for a 1"-10 thread the pitch in inches is 1/10 or 0.1 so 0.1/tan30=0.173 on the diameter, or 0.0866" on the radius.

no i am still viewing it on cutviewer not actually cutting any piece yet. but does the "16" there indicate THREADS per INCH?
if i know that then i can use the .61343/16 formula to get the depth of cut and my minor diameter and the chamfer diameter and so on.
