    Flipping the part in Edgecam

    Hello all,

I'm new to using Edgecam. Can anyone give me tips on how to flip the part in Edgecam; so after milling one side, flip it over to mill the other side without starting a whole new document? I was kind of thrown into using Edgecam on a self-learn track and stuck on this... I created a new CPL for the other side but when I click over to Manufacturing Mode, the tool is still oriented towards the original side.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You may have already found this on the screen, but when in manufacturing mode there is a "move" tab in the top of the toolbar. If you click on that a menu will drop down. One of the items will be "index". That will be where you can rotate the tool around to the other CPL. I think this is what you were looking for.

Thanks, Kelly! I think we're on the right track with this--did not know about the MOVE tab before. Problem is when I do this, it doesn't appear to rotate the tool, just shifts it over over to that CPL; which I had originally oriented correctly but now it's Z axis is pointing the same direction as the original side... is there a setting I'm not choose correctly? I had my CPL's oriented correctly for both sides accordingly but the INDEX just moves it over on the same plane. Any ideas?

    Hi guys,

It could depend on whether your post is set up to index in the correct way. In theory if you create your cpl correctly then a move index should always index there.

See my video to see how I did this.....

I havn't tried it but one would think that you could just copy the model to another layer and flip it over and work off that model.

You can do it this way

Align your part/first side with Top/G54 CPL.

    Create a new CPL G55.
Geometry Create CPL.Name G55 Origin box marked.
    press ok.
Select new origin for Cpl. Press x200 y0z0. Now you have a new CPL called G55.

Edit. Transform Translate. X200 Y0 z0. Repeats 1.Put mark in Copy. Ok.
Now you can align Side 2 with your CPL G55.

Feature Find Side 1 with Top CPL active and Side 2 with G55 active.

Use Top Cpl when you go to Manufacture Mode.

When you change to Side 2. Index. Name G55

Why not starting a new manufacturing sequence using the new cpl ?
Isn´t that the right way if you clamp the part another way ?

On this point, if you do set up a few new sequences, is there a way to rearrange the order of the sequences?
