We have a 1884 model Okuma Howa Act2SP-2 Twin Spindle CNC Lathe with a Fanuc 3T control. This is still a great machine and has served us very well for many years now. We have a recurring issue with the machine that has over the years very mysteriously appeared and very mysteriously went away. We have been unable to determine what causes the problem to begin with and why or how it went away. The main issues that develop is the machine will not execute a M03 command on either spindle in MDI mode or in program mode. However the machine will execute a M04 command in both MDI and program. The cycle start works sporadically on the right spindle. The left spindle will cycle start with no problem. Finally, when you enter a T03 in MDI the turret will index to tool #1, and when you enter T07 the turret will index to T05 on both sides. We have always suspected a limit switch issue of some kind and would check out and inspect the limit switches. We have also suspected issues with the wiring and would clean the oil and coolant from the outside of the wiring. The problem has occurred again and this time we have been unable to correct the situation. So, either we just got lucky in the past or the problem just went away for awhile. The machine has an SC45 board made by Mitsubishi and we have always wondered about the integrity of this board when this problem occurs. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
