I have purchased a new Hertz brand spindle HMB32c. This is 240v, 3 phase, 300 Hz, 18000 RPM, 1.5 KW spindle.
I am trying to connect it to a automation direct GS322P0 VFD.

The setup parameters for the VFD include base frequency with options 50/60/400. This is supposed to be taken of from the motor nameplate.
The motor I have lists it as 300 Hz.

I have entered the base RPM as 16000 and max RPM as 18000 as specified by the motor.
I tried leaving the base frequency at 60 Hz the default value, the motor seems to run at about 360 RPM. But the motor overheats and the vfd shuts down.

I am wondering if I should set it at 400 Hz, but then I could risk damaging the motor, as it is rated only for 300 Hz.

Does the VFD use the base frequency and the RPM to calculate the motor RPM from the Hz it is putting out ?

What am I missing ?
