    Ethernet SmoothStepper - Mach 3

I'm having issues with this thing.
I can not get past the screen that prompts you with CTFTP::Wake up client board dows not reply.
I clicked "no" and put in 10.9.9.9 and it simply won't connect.
I installed plugin version 10H2d1a and 10hd2 both with the same result.

I have my computer setup to IP 10.9.9.1 but also tried using 10.9.9.8. I have tried this on a laptop and a desktop with the same result. I have used a crossover cable and also tried using it through a switch. The switch and ethernet ports light up so I know its got a connection. I can ping 10.9.9.9 with no problem. I can connect the Configuator and save the results to the smooth stepper so I know it can talk to it. I have windows firewall completely turned off. I tried doing this on both my laptop and the desktop.

I can't see this being something wrong with my pc setup because both a laptop and desktop were tried.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I also made sure the smooth stepper is in WakeUp Mode by naking sure the jumper is not on both pins.

I looked over that document. The only thing I see different is it says to enter in the IP address AND 255.255.255.0 when you configure the plugin. Do you really do that or do you just enter in the IP address?

I do not remember if that was there when I set it up or not.
If there is a place for it then yes.
The important part is that the PC and ESS are on the same subnet.

I looked it doesn't have a place for the subnet mask. In any case I made sure the PC and ESS are on the same subnet. I tried 10.9.9.1 and 10.9.9.8 just for grins. I also rebooted many times trying different things to get it to work.

This is a bummer...strange I only seem to be having this issue, and on two different machines.

    Problem resolved....

I had sonicwall VPN client installed. It will not work with that installed.

Well that sucks! I wonder what Sonicwall was doing to cause this issue.

The VPN Client modifies the driver for encryption purposes. Not sure why this has an effect on smooth stepper unless he's talking to it low level through code. It doesn't impact me too much. The PC Mach is on has been re-purposed to be used for CNC work. I probably need to just wipe it and stick exactly what I need on it.

I didn't use VPN on my machine and ESS works fine for me. My mini_tower machine uses XP.
I could see encryption being a problem. ESS doesn't de-crypt the packets, since it is neither a VPN client nor a VPN server. Hence it can't use encrypted data. I'm also not well versed with VPN to really know for sure.
