    Coaxial indicator

    Hi all
I am trying to learn to use my Hurco md3 with the ultramax controller.

I am trying to find the center of a 3 inch hole using a coax. The problem is in manual the lowest rpm is 490.

How do you find the center of a hole.

I'm not sure about the MD3 but on the VMX42 and VM2's we have they can be adjusted down to 1RPM I use either the Blake CoAxial or a .0005 indicator on a Indicol holder.

I can program the speed I need when the machine is in Automatic, The tool can be set low enough to use the coax. The problem is when I switch to manual so that I can move the mill in X,Y, to center the hole. It reverts back to 490 as the minimum RPM . Way to fast for a coax. I was told that when in manual, the spindle gearbox switches to high speed. I don't know if this is true.

There has to be a way, or at least a way to find center of a hole.

I'm not familiar with that particular machine, we did have some older Hawks and KM3P machines but you could switch them between low and hi manually. Maybe someone else has experience with this machine. Can you rotate the spindle by hand and use an indicator?

Also I forgot to ask but what happens when you try to change the speed in the manual setup screen? I took a couple of picture of mine this morning.

You can see on this one that when I tried to program a low speed it created an error.

I wish my controller was that new! Mine is a dual monitor type.

So I have looked and looked and cant find a way to either use a coax in manual, or touch off on three points.

How does everyone find the center of a hole. There has to be a way!!!

I use an edge finder touch off one side, store pos, jog to opposite side and divide the difference. There's x centered. Then do the same with y.

Can use this technique on an inside hole or around a perimeter.
