water cooled spindle vs air cooled

Hello, I'm Ken from Alabama, USA - new here, but been lurking a while. Great resource.

I've got a Chinese 3040 CNC with a spindle that's got .004" TIR - that's just too much it seems. The CNC was pretty good at start, but now it's vibrating more and I do think the .004" TIR could be the cause. I'm doing mostly PCB milling and engraving text on mild steel.

I've been looking at the possible upgrade to a 800 watt spindle with VFD - either the water cooled or air cooled. Is the water cooled much less noise than the air cooled? Much difference? I'm sure the water cooled would be best for those 2 and 3 hr long projects, but all my projects (so far) involve less than 15 minutes of machine run time.

    Comments and recommendations please,

    Ken H>

Hi! I'd go with water cooled as you can run them at lower RPM's and they are quiter.

Water cooled spindle is better and quieter, but more expensive than air cooled one.
If your projects involve less time of machine, air cooled spindle is a better choice.
