    Hi,
I am from Turkey. Currently planning to build a portable 4axis usb controlled cnc to cut softmetals, wood, plastic. I am also trying to develop USB CNC controller with c#. If I can run this software on a small computer (tablet, netrduino etc.) then I can die peacefully I am a computer engineer, this is my day job.

Thats great. I am currently trying to build my prototype. There are some issues I have with the linear slides. I need low profile and cheap solution. But the cheapest solution that I found which has enough rigidity is the supported rails. But it not fitted my low profile need. The linear slides are expensive. I am considering to use unsupported rails. Btw my machine's foot print will be 50x50x25 cm and woring space will be 30x30x10 cm. Max load will be 50 N-200N. How about unsupported rails in these conditions or any other solutions that you had experienced?

I’m retired, spent some time in the Air Force working on Lockheed SR-71 as a sensor system specialist … best job I ever had with a group of very special people. Afterwards, I worked as a civilian on aircraft installing and repairing avionics for about 25 years. Several years ago, I went back to school late in life and finished a degree in mechanical engineering. My curiosity seems relentless. This is my year to work on my own projects for a change.

Re: Welcome thread-tell us about you.

I am new to this forum but excited to be a part of it. I started out as a manual machinist 20 years ago and then entered a Tool and Die apprenticeship. I have spent the past 16 years building sheetmetal stamping dies. I have been using CNC machines for tool component production and have also done a fair amount of fixture design and mfg for production CNC work. I have recently transitioned into a desk job designing Tooling and fixtures and developing new customers. I have spent the past 13 years with the same company. We have been around for over 30 years and specialize in stamping electrical contacts from .125 to .003 thick in all types of metals.

Hi guys, I just stumbled across this site and I'm really excited to peruse the wealth of knowledge that everyone has to offer.

I'm a Computer Science student and engineering enthusiast looking to build a CNC machine this summer in order to build robotics and electronic projects.

Hi everybody............I'm not a CNC machinist and have very limited knowledge of the machines and how they operate. However, as the Quality Manager in my organisation I am required to ensure our machines stay within the wear tolerances supplied by the connection Licensors for whom we cut premium threads. We run a Megabore (21") and a Mazak 4500M.
Previously I have had problems with batteries and relocation devices which have prevented the machines operating and I have found this site an extremely good source of information. There is an incredible amount of knowledge in here and having it all in the one spot is awesome.
