I am wanting to make sure that this will work. I am not sure that it will based on some of the things I have read but I will see what I get here. I bought an older style knee mill that uses 3 phase power. The control has the ability to control the spindle speed so I dont really want to mess with that. What I am hoping is that I can buy a 5hp single phase to 3 phase converter vfd (I have a 3 hp on the mill) set it to 60hz and leave it alone and use it soley for the inverter funtion. I would imagine that somewhere in the eletrionics cabinet there is something that step the power back down to run the computer control and all the servo amp's etc. I am hoping that it will just convert single phase into 3 phase and let the OEM equiptment handle everything else until it is ready for a conversion to Gecko and Mach3. Any info would be great

If the only thing on the mill that is three phase is the spindle motor, It is usually better to direct the 3 phase to the spindle and feed whatever is single phase from the 240v 1ph input.
It may require some wiring changes.
If you have the machine schematics it will make it easier.

You can only use the VFD to power the 3 phase AC spindle motor, nothing else on the machine can be powered by the VFD
