Hello,

I am looking to purchase my first Mazak vertical machine for production machining of aluminum castings. I have previously only used Haas machines. I am trying to decide between the VCN 530C (Nexus control) or the VCS 530C (Smart control). The VCN costs about $10,000 more than the VCS.

Do you feel that it would be worthwhile to pay the extra for the Nexus control? Or is the Smart control good enough?

Other than the controller, are there any major differences in the machine construction between the two models?

We have both machines in the shop...

It depend if you are machining a variety of part or a single one over the whole life of the machine.
If you answered a single part you should go with the VCS and save money.

Otherwise go with the VCN and avoid headaches with program transfer, memory capacity (we even have to split program in 4 or 5 smaller ones to get it loaded on the NC of the machine.)

Both machines deliver the same accuracy and output per our experience.
