    MD3 servos wont power up.

    Hi all-

Looks like the gremlins are back.

I finally have my MD3 up and running enough that I am starting to use it. So I ordered several new tool holders, new end mills, a 1/2 drill chuck.

UPS dropped off the box, and I decided to play on the mill. That is where the problems start.

So far I have replaced the VFD, I have replaced the suppressor board, and the CRT, and a few other small things.

So here is what happened today.

When I turn the mill on, the display turns on and goes through the self check. Everything is ok.

Press manual, then the power button. (I can hear the motor contactor pull in- Loud Chunk) same as always
then I press the start button. Nothing - There is usually another softer clunk. But nothing.

I can not calibrate the axis, turn on the servo, or move any axis.

I have checked and I have the AIR connected and the pressure is about 100 PSI.

How can I check to make sure the controller is seeing the air pressure?

Where should I start looking next?

    Thanks

    Steve

Check that all the overloads in the main cabinet aren't tripped and also check the switch on the spindle drive door is active.

    Bloke-

I tried that, and checked the fuses.

Strange thing after an hour of sitting with the power on, I pressed the power and the start button. Fired right up. I used it all day.

I just need to run this gremlin off. As soon as I get a job where I have to have the mill, it wont start.

    What else should I check?

    Bloke-

it appears that it does not like the cold weather. It wont start until we open the keyboard lift up panel, and turn the torpedo heater in the general direction. After about 10-15 minutes of pre heating, it is goo all day.

it must have a connection that is cracked, and when it is cold it pulls apart. A little heat and it closes up.

    just a guess though.
