    Pro 4848 z axis issues

Hey guys quick question when I run a 3d rough and finish in vectric aspire on my router table my sign gets about half way done and my z axis changes... I'm running 50ipm with a 30 ipm plunge. Do these need to be the same for better result? Just for the heck of it I bumped it up to 200 ipm to see if it would screw up again and it didn't.. Any advise? I'm running mach 3 on windows xp with a pulse and direction length set to 2 usec

What is your acceleration set to? If your losing steps, decreasing the acceleration rate will often help.

My acceleration rate is set to 40 acceleration and 150 velocity on my z axis x is 1000 v and 40 a and y is the same as x. Basically I'll run my roughing file and it runs perfect. Next I swap to my 3d finish. About 1 hr and 30 min into it it dropped about .125 deeper then it should of and then continued the rest of the job. I'm running a pro 48x48 from cnc router parts with kelininc motors and drives. They are nema 34 with 960oz. My z motor does get hot to the touch but so are my y and x and a motors after over an hour of run time. Any suggestions?

I can try to decrease my acceleration but if I was losing steps shouldn't I see it in more then one spot?

I can put my hand on the router and drive the motor up and pull down slightly and it doesn't miss pulses it pulls my hand up and down no problem

Not necessarily. It may be only the one spot that's requiring more torque than your motors can provide at that spot. Try reducing the Z accel to 30 and see if you still have the problem.

Are your drives getting hot too?

Now that you say that my girlfriend said to me yesterday that they were warm through her jeans. I've been done running it for about 45 min and they are definitely warm to the touch. I do not have a fan on them they are mounted on plywood in the open air.

I'm done running it tonight but I did adjust my acceleration to 30 on all the axis's. Maybe I should take a box fan and put it In front of the drivers tomorrow and run it to see if that makes a difference. Anything else I could check before waiting more wood haha? All the nuts and bolts/ set screws are right so I know it's not a mechanical issue

    What drives are you using?

If only the Z is losing position, than you only need to lower the Z acceleration.

I am using KL-8060 drives. I read through the literature on it and it says my pulse and direction length needs to be about 1.2 for reliable control so I'm using 2 usec

I picked up a ess from warp 9 and it solved all my issues. I wasn't running my g0704 mill at the same speeds as the router table so I never had any issues. The one thing I'm still trying to get working with the ess is my touchoff plate. It was working before I installed the ess. It's setup as pull up (plate is HIGH 5v) and when the router bit touches it goes LOW 0v and it's setup activate low on my ports in pins in mach. I'm going to try a different input I'm no sure if there are dedicated inputs on the ess or what.
