    Need Help with scanning

I have a new job that requires a CNC carving on a gun stock, I have Aspire 3.0 3D software, Mach 3, and a homemade CNC router. So I need to scan in the gun stock so I then can wrap the carving onto the already existing 3D curvature.
I'm looking for input on what type of probe or laser scanner that I should get/need?
What software I need, or can I use Mach 3 for this?
If I can use Mach 3, how do I set it up?
How do I set up my controller, do I just go right into the import pins, or do I need another board?
Any and all input would be appreciated. Thank you

You may find scanning and surface modeling a part to take a lot more time and effort to do right than you are thinking. If you end up wanting to farm that part out, let me know, and I can quote the part for you.
