    G0704 Spindle tightening tool

    Hey guys,

The G0704 came with this little tool with a pin on the end of it that's used for holding the spindle in place when tightening the top nut. This tool will most likely break after a few uses (Mine is dead in the water after 4 uses). This might mean I'm tightening the spindle nut too much, or maybe it means that tool is just crap.

Either way, it looks like I'm going to need another one. What is this tool called? Is there a better alternative to this thing? There has to be...

If there is, I don't know what it's called, so I cannot find one to purchase it. Or, I suppose I could make one of my own. Anyone have any experience with this? What solutions did you come up with?

Long before grizzly added the hole and the wrench to the machine I made my own spanner wrench and put the hole in the spindle.
A free print is available here also a link to a real pin spanner that you could get at sears and elsewhere.

I just use the appropriate size tapered punch. Works great.

How tight are you tightening the collets? I've been using the stock wrenches for over a year, doing a few production runs, and my wrenches are still in good shape.

I was more than likely pulling on the tool and not the wrench at the top. That's probably what broke the tool. Yes, It's completely my fault. Still, that tool bends way too easily imo.

you can make yourself one of these which Grizzly sells now, a little expensive. But not to hard to make.
