it is on the main mother board usually found on the top left side. You usually have to take out one or two other boards and a whole lot of cables to get to it. You have to solder in the new batter without disconnecting the old one. Then remove the old battery. Its a little bit of a process. I have done it successfully once. The second time it lost all perameters and came up with a ton of errors.

There is a plug connector, right next to the main battery, to attach a temporary battery to hold all parameters and software while the old battery is changed out.

Yes the battery is on the Processor. If you do not have a temp external 3vdc battery you can plug in, definitely back up and save all parameters and settings, macros, offsets, programs. How old is this machine?? If you have a USB drive you can do an "auto save all" check battery voltage first as well, I have seen several processors go "dead" and simply throws out a 124 low battery alarm, when in fact it is the processor that has died.
