    MX-45VAE collision during tool change

During a tool change, the tool that was about to be placed in the spindle collided with the work piece (while rotating from the tool changer). The operator had already cycled the power to try and reset the tool changer, but this didn't work and it is stuck with the tool changer arm in the middle of its rotation. We have tried forcing the tool changer through its steps but it seems to get hung up with trying to align the z-axis with the changer. It looks like the machine is trying to drive the z-axis (its applying 71% power), but it's not going anywhere from there. Anyone have any suggestions before we call in for a tech?

    Thanks,
    Jason

Had a similar problem with a large diameter tool hitting the rear column of the machine.
    - found that the toolarm had "slipped" on the shaft creating an "out-of-alignment|" condition

adjustment was to loosen the ( 8-10 )screws that tighten the taperlock, and spinning the arm back into position for BOTH the spindle and the carousel pocket.
    - alignment with the spindle is the more critical

    Solved!

We're not exactly sure why, but the z-axis moved during the collision, even though it wasn't involved in the collision. So the z-axis was not in the tool change position. So it was a chicken-and-egg problem. One of the other engineers tricked it into thinking it was in the tool change position so he could advance through the tool change sequence and complete it, then set everything back to the original values.
