    Retrofit CNC control, input appreciated!

We bought an old CNC lathe and never got it working. PLC battery has gone, and we had no paper backup with the machine. It's a beast of a machine mechanically speaking, so we would like to keep it. It's an old Monforts RNC 1000 (1984) lathe with a Siemens control.

Can anyone offer some tips on a cost effective way to upgrade this to something a little newer, perhaps still Siemens but not antique. Something that would plug in with as little modification as possible would be nice, if possible.

Anyone offering this type of service professionally can feel free to send me a PM. We are based in Europe.

Hah, problem solved thanks to Siemens. Seems we were given some bad information. We have the control back on, seems the PLC is intact. Hydraulics won't start yet but we had the pump running manually. Posting this here for anyone else who finds themselves in the same boat as us.

Correct restart procedure for Sinumerik System 3 (As found on 1984 Monforts RNC 1000-E)

    1. Put PLC CPU switch in STOP mode
    2. Press Reset key of Power Supply
    3. Simultaneously with Reset key of Power Supply press Restart key of PLC CPU
    4. Release Reset key of Power Supply
    5. Wait the Green Run Led of PLC CPU to get ON and OFF
    6. Release Restart key of PLC CPU
    7. Move PLC CPU switch from STOP to RUN
    8. Move PLC CPU switch from RUN to STOP
    9. Finally, move PLC CPU switch from STOP to RUN

The PLC CPU should be successfully restarted.
