How to Connect Relays to the KFlop Controller???

    Greetings,

Reading the info. on the website... it seems that the limit, for direct output, from the KFlop controller, is 3.3v @ 10ma. No add on cards.

If so, could someone give me a little guidance or diagram, as to how I can control a bank of 24vdc relays.
I do not want to buy the 32 I/O board, as my project must keep the cost way down.

The relays I use are 24vdc 200mW coil, would that be 8.4ma??

Does anyone make a board, that I could use to translate this to relay control. I can make my own board if needed.

I am looking for 8 outputs, Kflop to relay control.

Also, for inputs, do I run neg. to my switches and back to the inputs,... or Positive out and back?

    Which is preferred?

    Sincerely,

    Jeff

If you want to wind your own, look at the ULN2803 relay driver, includes built in EMF diodes, use .2" spaced terminals in conjunction with Strip Boards Page half way down here Prototyping Boards
You can also pick up Opto22 boards and the various I/O modules on ebay if you prefer.

    Hi Jeff,

Winford.com sells a 4 channel relay board including relays for $55. They also show a circuit.

Here is the circuit we use on our Konnect board.

The DSS4240T-7 transistor used. High current gain (>100), up to 2A, 40V, low cost.

The opto isolation may not be required for you. Just a 470 ohm resistor from the KFLOP output to the transistor base.

Please make sure there is a reverse diode path across any relay coil to avoid the high voltage (spark) when the coil is switched off.
