LU 15W sub spindle/ Zb axis interference parameters

We have a LU15w with OSPE100L (sub is NC controlled) controls currently in the shop. This machine has been running production for awhile and has been running fine. I was sick for two days and when I came back all parameters were lost. We bought the machine with no backup disk and no one thought to make a backup for the user parameters. I have reset most of the user parameter back to where they were previously and have everything apparently working, however the sub spindle is giving me headaches.

It first started out that the sub would move away from the main but wouldn't move towards the main. I reset all the Stroke limits to the maximum to allow it to move. It still would only move in one direction. While poking around in the parameters I released the "Touch setter IL release" now I can move the sub in both directions, however, I can only move it a certain distance towards the main relative to the turret B Z axis. With the B turret moved all the way towards the main spindle I still have about 2' of travel to go till I reach the main. I was wondering if anyone knew of an interference parameter that I have missed. I found in the long word parameters ZB axis W axis interference, but that doesn't change a thing. Hartwig applications support is stumped at the moment. Im stumped. All while the big boss is wondering why the machine isn't in production. Thanks for any help in advance.

As in chuck barrier? I set all to zero, an no avail. If you mean something else please specify.. Im not 100% on okuma controls. When in MDI I give the command for the B turret to move in the positive Z axis. (g00 z100.) I get this error. "1299 Alarm A- Sub spindle interference distance 1"

"The issued command requires the sub spindle headstock (W-axis) and B-turret (ZB axis) to come closer beyond the interference distance specifications by the parameter, Optional parameter long word no 45. (The machine of LT series conducts interference check between L and R spindles.)"

I have checked long word parameter 45 and it has nothing to do with zb axis. It is "One touch tool offset calculation function-datum plane X at A side"

Long word 50 sounds more like it with "ZB Axis interference allowable distance for sub spindle" but I have changed that to all variables and nothing works.

Im really tempted to break out the plasma torch. Frustrating.

there are soft limits and there are hard limits. it sounds like your hard limits are wrong.
the parameter 45 is probably a typo (there are many in Okuma manuals)

try adjusting parameter 50...... that's the 'ZB axis - W axis interference allowance for sub spindle'.
initial value is 0, maximum is 99999999

alternatively check in the parameter set/other function 2 screen. there's a setting for '1st spindle interference Z axis position' and '2nd spindle interference Z axis position'
they need to be set correctly. the default is 99999999 and it's in microns. you'll have to work out the real numbers to suit your machine.

I have my hard limits set to the max they will go. The soft limits I set just so they wont trip the over travel hard switch. Here are my settings:

    ----------------------XB --------------ZB---------WB-------------XA-----------ZA--------WA
    Stroke Limit +: 3649.8109 : 3937.0078 : 419.0 : 3769.0 : 3769.0 : 419.
    Stroke Limit - : 3643.0 : 461.2700 : 0.0 : 0.0 : 0.0 : 0.0

    Soft limits are as follows..

    ------------- XB ------------------ ZB------------- WB ----------- XA ------------- ZA ----------- WA

    Variable Limit (p) + : 6.8109 : 3473.8422 : 13. : 14.9292 : 5.1419 : 20.1664
    Variable Limit (p) - : 0.0 : 0.0 : -406.0 : -0.8358 : -0.7181 : -398.8336
    Variable Limit (m) + : 3649.8109: 3937.0078 : 419.00 : 957.8585 : 475.8133 : 419.0
    Variable Limit (m) - : 3643.0 : 463.1656 : 0. : 942.0435 : 459.9533 : 0

Im going by the RAPA axis readings from the encoder for setting my limits.

My zeros are set as follows.

    XA - 942.8793
    ZA- 460.6715
    WA- 398.8336
    XB- 3643.0
    ZB- 463.1656
    WB- 406.00

So the lower turret should be able to travel in the positive direction on the Z axis (toward the sub spindle) for 3473.8422" and the sub spindle should be able to travel towards the main spindle (negative W axis) in the amount of -406.0".. Correct me if Im wrong. Those limits should allow more than enough movement. When I watch the RAPA (encoder reading) and give a command of "G91 G00 Z.005" the lower turret moves in the positive direction .005". If I give the command "G91 G00 Z1." I get the alarm "1299 Alarm A- Sub spindle interference distance 1".
I tried changing parameter long word 50 to 0, no luck.
I tried changing it to 400, no luck.
    I tried 1000, no luck.
    I tried 999999, no luck.
I tried whispering sweet nothings to it, no luck.

When I change parameter long word 50 and I have movement in the Z axis (maybe .5'') I lose that movement. I change it back to what it was before I lost the movement and I don't get my wiggle room back. I'm thoroughly stumped.

Go to your parameter #50 and SET to 40000. Then ADD -40000. you can now move closer. When you have your spindles as close as you ever want them, Set # 50 to 0 and your sub can't hit the main. EVER.

    Best regards,

Okumawiz, you sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I had to set to 40000 then add -40000. Then I could move them closer, but there was still about 10'' of travel till the main. I had to set and add when I had it at the stopping point a few more times to get it all the way over to the main. Thank you very much. This has been plaguing me for a week. Time to make a backup disk.
