How loud are the air cooled chinese spindles?

I'm interested in upgrading my Kress FME 1050 to a chinese spindle, but would prefer air cooled to avoid having to add water lines (though I could just put a pump, radiator and fan inside the gantry). How noisy are the different chinese spindles? I see Ugra has done noise measurements on their spindles ( Noise Level of CNC Spindles ), which is promising, especially for the 1,5 kW spindle, but they don't look exactly like the lower priced ones on Ebay.

How noisy are the round air cooled spindles compared to the square ones, or compared to another benchmark spindle? Looks like the round ones have much more fins, which probably means more noise. My Kress sounds like an angry baboon in a sewage pipe at high rpm.

The round 1.5KW aircooled spindles are deadly quiet. I just ditched a 1050w router for a chinese made spindle from ebay and couldnt believe the difference.

Thanks. That sounds promising. I just ordered a round air cooled 2.2 kW spindle after stalling my Kress and ruining a job.

in Norway aircoled is better due to cold weather..

    watercooled works with antifreeze..

after put on the new spindle youll wondering why you didn't changed longtime ago.. brushed motors always noisier -louder than brushless motors..

look for collets at ctc tools..

Individual Collets - 0.015mm, ER Collet Chucks items in er collet store on eBay!

I have er11 mm and inches full set.. also extra collet nuts, and extra pieces of the most used sizes..

youre not tied to a few standard size

I received my round 2.2 kW spindle this week, and it hardly makes any noise at all, at all speeds. It's also incredibly efficient compared to the brushed Kress. I have been missing out for seven years with the Kress. I always thought the difference would be small. Boy was I wrong. It effortlessly cuts at depths that the Kress would throw a sparking hissy fit and stall in.

Can you post some pics of the bottom?
Does it have an ER20 collet?
    Who was the seller?

Is it the same as this one?

I spent all day yesterday redesigning my machine to use the Hertz spindles from Turkey, but these would be about $800 cheaper for two of them.

This is the one. It's 2.2kw and uses ER20 collets. A 4 mm collet was included: 2 2KW Air Cooled Spindle Motor Engraving Milling Grind 80x230mm | eBay

I got this VFD from the same seller. It has a pot for controlling the rpm, and has the RS485 chip installed, unless I looked at the wrong pcb inside. The manual was in english and was even legible: Variable Frequency Drive VFD Inverter 2 2KW 2HP 220V 110VAC | eBay

    Thanks for that.

All the Ebay sellers (at least most of them) list an ER20 collet, but they all look the same, and one was clearly labeled as ER16.

I need to use 1/2" tools, so ER16 would be a deal breaker.

While I've changed my mind about 3 times already, this looks like the route I'm going to take.

    Thanks again.

ER20 was important to me too. I hated being limited to 10mm with my old spindle. Today I used a 12mm endmill in oak. I have had the endmill for many years, it came with a set, and haven't been able to use it until now.

I was concerning on weight.. for 2.2 kw might need counterbalancing, or even larger stepper on Z axis.. due it weighing more..

tough the 1/2 inches collet more useful

I have a pneumatic balance system on the Z-axis, with a 16 mm cylinder inside the Z-housing. With the 2.2 kW spindle installed it would slowly drop to the table without power.

I don't think there's much weight difference, because both are 80mm dia., and the 2.2Kw is only a little bit taller.

Looking at their specs, I think the 2.2Kw is actually less than 2.2KW, as it's rated at 8.5 amps compared to 8 amps for the 1.5 KW.
The 2.2Kw spindles from Turkey are 10 amps.

That would make the 2.2Kw actually closer to 1.9Kw. The Water cooled that everyone uses are rated the same, though, so not really a big deal. And again, they're less than 1/2 the price.

Here's a video of my spindle running a little test routine after I finished setting up the modbus communication:
