Hired a CAD designer for a pen, now manufacturers tell me current design won't work

Hey everyone. As the title says, I now have CAD models, drawings, and renderings of what I thought was a simple pen design. I hired the designer on a freelance website and while he was helpful I don't think the product turned out to be manufacturable. I want to create and sell a simple pen (cap, tip, body) online and have a plan for that, but I know little about design.

I got advice from someone I e-mailed, and it seems like I need to redesign the pen. Main problems: the pen must be threaded to a shoulder, the sharp edges need to be manually removed in my current design, pens must be drilled deep, and the cap design requires an additional operation.

Where should I go to get these issues fixed? Back to the current designer? Find someone new? Do it myself?

    Thanks for any help!

I'd probably work with the manufacturer and get their recommendations.

The issue with the cap is simply that it has a rounded tip, which cant be accomplished at the same time as the internal work. If you flatten that out, even just to a relatively small flat (.100" or so) it would become a single op part. The issue with the threads is small, the threaded section just needs extended and a relief added to where the threads and shoulder meet.

The bigger issue is with how the pen cartridge is retained, which as you said, requires a relatively intricate feature at a pretty extreme depth.

I'd suggest separating the main "tube" and the "pen tip" itself into two pieces, make the "tip" thread into the "tube".. seems simple enough.

What software did your CAD designer work in, or what files did you end up with as a result?
