    Red face Job setup for 2 or more vices in Edgecam

    Hi, How do I write a program in Edgecam to output G54, G55 work co-ordinates for 2 or more vices?I edit it in the code generator but cannot save it as a file to call up again

    I've done something similar before and what I did was to customise a simple 3 axis post processor.
    All they had to do was program as normal but at the start of the program we had a menu where they selected how many work offsets they were using, then the post would output each tool movement as a sub and repeat for G54, G55, G56 etc etc.
    Takes a little digging under the surface of Edgecam/Code Wizard but got good results.

    Hi Meegers, that sounds very interesting.

    I do it this way:
    Tool 1 - Rapidmove - Cycle - Index G55 - Translate - Index G56 - Translate -
    Toolchange - Index G54
    New Tool etc etc............ Its a pain.

    I know it's much to ask for, but is it possible you wanna share a post that can do that ?
    Or tell step by step how to tweak one ?
    I would be very grateful !

    Actually, having looked at the post again I might not get this done in my lunch hour.

    Give me a day or two and I'll make some good notes. It's not too complicated. Just a couple of variables, an ask box in the start code con, and a procedure in the misc whiteboard. The best best is in 'rapid after toolchange' where we have a switch which diverts the code into a sub program and 'rapid to toolchange' where the code is diverted back into the main program.

    Variables, create an ask box... im blank. But if you tell me exactly what and where 2 add it, i think i can do it.

    Guys,

    As promised please find attached a post and a simple ppf. Have done this for 2014r1 but the logic in the post can be copied into older posts - have tested back to 2012r1 using an adaptive ISO mill template. Note that I've copied the coding from a customers post and placed into a brand new out-of-the-box template post which hasn't been tested so I may not have fully checked all aspects of this post. In other words - don't just run this post and expect it to work first time. It was based on a Haas if I remember correctly.

    Open the post with 2014r1 Code Wizard, compile it and we're ready to go!

    Basics.
    What this post/ppf will show is a simple method of programming a part and then outputting the code to multiple work offsets. Program assumes all these work offsets are pre-set although for those who know how, the post can be amended to output G10's too.
    The ppf is simple enough - just program a 3 axis part as usual. I've kept it simple - no need for datum shifts etc.
    When you're happy with the programming, then output the code and you'll get a pop up box asking you to select how many work offsets you want to output to. The post will then output a main program - which contains all setups, toolchanges and calls to subs. The post will also output another program containing all the subs rolled into one file. Then you can either copy the subs into the main, or if you have the skills write a PDI to append both progs together and select as a run-after PDI.

    Post Coding.
    Program Start Code Con - We have a variable setting and the coding for the ask box.
    Program End Code Con - Coding that outputs any sub routines into a sub program.
    Customisation Whiteboard - Declarion of two variable - and procedure which loops the number of work offsets.
    Rapid After Toolchange/Feed After Toolchange - Coding in here is the important bit. %OUTFILE will divert the following nc code into a seperate file, in this case set by $user5=Subs.nc
    Rapid to Toolchange/Rapid to Home - This then diverts the following nc code back into the main program - so all toolchanges are in the main. Here %OUTPUT=STANDARD is thr code that does that.

    Very impressive Meegers. Although I never manage to make that pdi, this is awesome.
    Bye bye creating Cpls, rapid moves, Index Translate, all boring work is gone!
    Even Operations work with this.

    No problem - forgot to add to earlier post that you'll need to set up some user variables in the format table - #user17 to #user20. Just copy the format from my post.

    There are a few ways of going about this. I use multi vises all the time. My favorite way of running the same part on multiple vises is to use Matrix mode... it is extremely easy... and does not require setup of g55 etc,
    you just need to know the separation distance from part to part.. Matrix mode does all the work of organizing the tool usage for you... and you just have to program it once. Matrix mode can be applied after you program the part or on use with existing ppf's... and it can be modified at any time.
    If you are using multiple ops in one ppf program (different parts)... then use datum shift.

    When i have a Datum **** between Matrix Mode On and Off i get this:
    Invalid command within Matrix definition.

    Can you output G54 G55 G56 if you type 545556 in work datum override ?
    Or do you have to place your part 100% exactly on the table using the spacing from matrix (no Cpls)?

    Helix77 cant you post a simple example here using the Training Mill mm. mcp ?

    No... you do not need to add any datum shifting. that's why its so easy... you don't need to use anything but g54 (provided that you are milling multiples of the same part)
