    Fanuc EDM Alpha-OC Reference Return

    Hi all,
I am learning to use my recently acquired 1998 Fanuc Robocut Alpha-OC, and am stumped !!
After having read the entire operators manual, I am still unable to zero the axes to get the system moving under program control.
Please someone tell me how to do a reference return.
    All help is appreciated.

Thank you sir, that's exactly what I did last night. Apparently the servo pulse coders lost power at some point in time and forgot the reference point coordinates.
I should have the machine up and running tonight. Initially when I thought reference return, I was thinking Fanuc OT and was looking for a (ref) button to push.
    Regards,
    F1

I'm assuming you figured this out, but I have a printout I got from Methods Machine that gives step by step directions on how to do the reference return. If this would help anyone out I can scan them and upload.

Re: Fanuc EDM Alpha-OC Reference Return

    Hello wdevine,
I did finally figure it out, after reading the Fanuc manual about twenty times.
It seems that something is lost in the translation from Japanese to English.
I would be very interested in Methods' translation, just for my own records.
    Thanks,
    F1

    Dear frinkdaddy1!

What diameter is the adjustment nozzle? I read the Method document, and i don't see the diameter of the adjustment nozzle.

    Thanks

    Hello,
I've made a mistake and I set the machine coordinate in the lowest point and now i cannot move it on Z+. How I can change the absolute coordinate to 0?
    Thanks

Hi wdevine, I am trying to reset the taper angle as it is 1.2 deg out, I can take the measurement to the bottom guide, but am unsure how I can calculate the top guide settings, have you any idea about these settings,
    Thanks ,

    Hi Angusmac2
I would check the parallelism of the upper and lower guides
see maintenance manual. routine maintenance sect, 2.4.4

also recheck Verticality of wire adjustment sect,2.2.2

Re: Fanuc EDM Alpha-OC Reference Return

there is a maintenance function in EDM to set wire alignment. There is a tool (wire alignment block) that should be supplied with each machine. Instructions are in manual and machines on how to perform the wire alignment. This is recommended to be done every 30 days.
