    bobcad tool crib

I am trying to build a tool crib with all the tools I use frequently. Say 10-20 end mills. The only way I have found to build a tool crib is to make a job that uses that tool, and then save. I'd rather not have to make up jobs that use the 20 end mills just to make the crib. IS there an interface I am missing that allows one to just pick from the master tool list and put those tools into a crib?

Yes, it is very easy to build a Tool Crib for future use, go to :-

Milling Tools > right click and select Tool Crib > (New empty Crib will appear) now select a tool type from the list on the left > this will show the tool type already in the Crib > now click Add from Tool Library and select a tool from the Library and click the OK button > selected tool will now be in your Crib > carry on till you have all the tools you want/need in your Tool Crib > now save it out with a name eg "Default Crib".

Now whenever you start a new job (Do this selection before anything else) you can go to the "Milling Tools > Tool Crib > click Import and select the saved out Tool Crib and you are "good to go".

If you do it at the beginning of your Job then most of the time BobCAD will/should populate your tool area with what it thinks is the best tool for the particular feature automatically, not often you should need to go selecting tools

This does of course all depend on whether you have actually set up your tool library properly, it is a bit time consuming as is setting up all your Cutting Conditions and Materials Libraries but if done right these things can save many hours when programming ! ! !

    Engine Guy-
Perhaps you can help me with a similar problem-
In my Milling Tool Crib--in "Chamfer Tool"--I have a .250X90 degree Sharp Tool.
When I select -Feature Chamfer Cut--and right click edit--the " Chamfer Mill "
Selection page opens up (you can only select chamfer mills) I need the " Chamfer
Mill Tool" page to open up so I can select the above tool which is in the Milling Tool Crib
under "Chamfer Tool" How can I get this to show up when I choose to edit
    "Feature Chamfer Cut"

    Any help would be appreciated--------Rick

    Engine Guy-
OK-I did what you said--I saved it to a file--Then when I was in Edit
I chose import and that gave me my choice--But But !! It worked for that
session but would not save--Next time I opened up the file I had to go through
the same procedure--- I guess that's the way it is!!
    Thanks for your Help---Rick

    Re: bobcad tool crib

    Hi Rick

Sorry for the delay, been very busy today.

OK, if you are doing a Milling job and chamfering an edge then you can only use a Chamfer Mill, the Chamfer Tool is only used/available for doing chamfers on holes.

So, if you have a Chamfer Tool in your shop and want to use it for chamfering Profiles, Pockets etc then you will need to create a Chamfer Mill using the specifications of your Chamfer Tool, that way it will toolpath correctly and simulate correctly.

    Hope that helps

    Regards
    Rob
