well I have a guy that will build me a new 1 but he is in Indiana I think

    1. It has a cutting area of 5 inches Y axis x 9 inches X axis travel.
    2. R-8 Spindle
    3. Ball Screws and Rapids of 150 IPM, Cutting at 35-75 is handled easily.
    4. Upgraded to belt drive for the spindle for two reasons
    1. More Spindle Speed
    2. The Stock plastic gears are crap and break with little use

5.The stepper motors are 400 ozin and are direct coupled to the screw.
    6. Use 3 seperate Gecko G203 Stepper Drivers so they can be replaced if burned out
    7. Runs Mach 3 software on included Portable Computer<<< no computer as I will load the software on my own
    8.deleted option.
    9. X and Y axis have a belt drive and the new Z-axis mod will move the screw within the column.
10 ***Another new mod is a solid column support ***
    11. Limit Switches on all axis and E-Stop

I'm including some pictures of my current machine (It has an extended Y axis bed so I can get 7 inches of travel) and I will have actual pics of the newest version in about 3 weeks. The CAD rendering is the newest design minus a few sheet metal pieces.
this is what he can offer for under 3K shipped

does that meet your requirements? the travels seem really small. the base mill is about $600.00 neither of the machines you posted are really good for a conversion. I think you'd be better off with an x3 or a g0704. both have dovetail columns and more rigid than the first one you posted and slightly smaller than the last one you posted. if you need the robustness of the last one than I would look at an rf45. if you want to can come by and see my rf-45 converted cnc mill. I'm in troy.
