    Programming help

I am trying to figure out how to do a slot and I am not having any luck.

I do a lot of base plates that need several slots in them.

I have tried to do a rectangle and I can't get it to work. I keep getting the error "tool is to large". What am I doing wrong?

    I am using a .25 inch endmill and I tried to do a .5 x .75 rectangle with a .25 corner radius.

I tried sever different sizes for the slot, endmill size, and radius. Any ideas or guidelines ?

    Hi Scrambled,

Send me this information. Machine, machine control and a copy of your program. I will take a look at it for you.

It typically should work with a .1875 emill.

    Dean-

It is a md3 and uses the ultrimax3.

I normally do structural steel, so most slots are 13/16 x 1 inch. I can use any size endmill.

If you are using frame, it's probably to do with the blend offset. Use In/tan instead of Inside frame or make the blend offset 0 in the milling parameters.

    What does in/tan mean?

Check to see what size your lead in/out is. It should be under parameters. It may be to long. You could also use a pocket toolpath. It's been awhile since I've used the control but those are things to look at.

    Re: Programming help

In/tan and out/tan are the same as inside and outside frames but started on a tangent with the edge of the shape cut (without a blend in/out move). The same applies to circle milling. The default blend offset and blend overlap are usually 3mm meaning it overlaps the start point by 3mm and moves the cutter away from the cut part by 3mm. In/tan will do an inside frame but will start the cut on the frame wall end end in the same spot it started.

Okay try hitting the input button. Then hit f4-program parameters followed by f6-milling parameters. The first things you see is blend offset. That is the lead in/out numbers.
