    Using the ENTIRE table.

I really love having a little CNC of my very own.
It sure does make life easier.
Today, a customer needed a motorcycle frame bored out correctly, due to another shop's mismatch.
I got the job done by circle-milling, and needless to say, it took up the ENTIRE table of my little 770.
    Part was 31" x 12" x 7" tall.
    Fun stuff!!

Sometimes we end up doing things our machines weren't intended for. LOL

The "bar" here is about 4 feet long, front end of an old MF tractor. Had to build up then re cut the spindles. Not high precision work, but definetley taxed the 1100!

Good job on the fixture - lucky you had a hole to work with.

    That's getting it done!
I like seeing pictures of setups, knowing one day I might need to do something like it.
    Thanks for showing!

This thread reminded me of a tormach blog post I saw a while back:

But not so with work fixturing!
I once worked with an A+ machinist. Smartest guy I've ever worked with. 3D, 5-axis aerospace CAD/CAM programmer, etc. etc.
He could run ANY machine and make ANY part.
He told me that about 80% of figuring out how to run a part is workholding.
Vise, Chuck, Clamps, Nesting, Fixturing ??
Once you get that figured out, the rest is easy.
