Step motor stall& missing steps at speed higher than 50ipm

Hi everyone... I've built my own cnc router at work, off hours. To save on the cost of a kit I've made my own. It's relatively a good size for me anyway. The travel on it is X 34in Y 24in Z 9in. I've bought 2005 ball screws 5mm pitch(.197in pitch). I've bought 3 axis kit on ebay from act motors dm860 drivers, nema34 860oz.in 8 leads step motor and 3x 60volts power supply. Now the problem is I can't have feeds over 50ipm. My driver are set at 6400 micro steps per turn if I got this right. I've tried to lower the steps to go faster but it stall, jerk miss steps ect. The wiring is parallel I think, red& blue to A+ yellow& black A- white& brown B+ and orange& green to B- so far this wiring gets the most torque I think. The problem is it's the first time I do a project like this and I'm not sure of anything. Do I need bigger 1600oz.in step motors, higher power supply or better drivers, not sure. Maybe my ballscrew pitch is to low 5mm maybe 20mm pitch would be better. Don't now if its something in mach3 I'm using a gx620 dell 3.4ghz small factor form pc with xp pro. Please help would like at least get 100ipm for rapide.

    Thanks for support, please help:drowning:

Don't get 1600 oz-in motors. They will likely be worse. I get over 200 ipm on my SX3 mill using 280 oz-in steppers, 40v , 5 tpi ball screws

What is the inductance of the motors? Do you have a link to the datasheet?

Re: Step motor stall& missing steps at speed higher than 50ipm

HI. Thanks for the reply, my step motor are 34HS9820 have 15/60/15mH. way to high, if I would have known that high inductance is not good I would of bought differently. I would like to have 200ipm for rapide with my 2005 ballscrew (5mm pith). Any suggestions on nema34 steppers since my bracket are for this size stepper motor. Please reply.
    Thanks.

I use these in a mill I made http://www.kelinginc.net/KL23H2100-35-4B.pdf. I run them with 40 Volts.
When I first turn the mill on I could only get 70 ipm and still missing steps sometimes.. I am useing 1/2" 13 thread all. in troubling shooting. I found my screw were binding with the stepper motor. I was using a fix coupling from motor to screws. I went to a rubber hose with clamps and can now run at 170 ipm without missing steps. I find I am still running at about 40 ipm, doing the woodworking that I do.

15 mH is far too high. It should be closer to 2.

I like this one (nema 23):
    NEMA23 570oz/in 5A 3/8? Dual Shaft Stepper Motor (KL23H2100-50-4B) | Automation Technology Inc

If you must get a 34, I would pick the lowest inductance one from this page:
NEMA 34 | Automation Technology Inc
