[ADVICE NEEDED] Z-Axis not moving - CNC builder needed

    Hi Guys,

My mate has an old CNC machine which his dad imported from china. I just recently swapped over the old pendant hand controller to a newer model(thanks to RussellK for the guidance). Before I swapped over the controller I turned on the machine on and played around with the movement. The X and Y axis was working fine. The Z axis wasn't working. I didn't look into it and continued with the swap over.
After I had swapped over the controller the machine was turned on and running, but still the Z axis was not moving.
I think there maybe a wiring issue somewhere. I'm not sure where to begin.

Can anyone provide me with any advice on where to start looking for the problem?

The last pic showing the guts is where you need to look. Some closer, square-on pics of the bits and how they're connected would be a help.

In short, though, you should be able to swap, say, the X and Z outputs of the interface board (the one on the bottom right, and assuming they're wired the same) and see if moving the X moves the Z. That'd tell you if it's a software config problem or a hardware problem.
