Roland SRP Player Pro - Single line engraving

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to perform single line engraving with the Roland MDX 540 and Roland's SRP Player Pro software?
I have been looking every where and am going mad trying to figure it out.

I've seen it done on the machine here:

    Thanks in advance!

I don't think SRP Player supports engraving; it's pretty much focused on automating the production of 3D parts. There should be an engraving program on the disk you got with your machine, although it's pretty simple-minded. You can also use a 3rd-party engraving program, as long as it's got an appropriate post-processor for the MDX-540.

Hi awerby thanks for this. When we got the machine we were in such a rush to set it up we only installed SRP Player Pro!! Talk about a newbie mistake. I see now on the disk supplied with the machine there is software that can do this.

Just for interest what do you mean by a post-processor?

I hope it works for you. A post-processor works with a CAM program to customize its output so that it works with a particular machine. While the MDX-540 uses G-code, a generic language that controls CNC machines, it, like every machine, wants the data presented in a certain way. For instance, some want spaces between the axis letter and the number representing the position it's being sent to, others don't. Some want the program to start with a "%" sign; others don't care. Various G-code commands are treated differently by different machines too. So every CAM program will have a list of "posts" you should choose from, so that your machine gets its marching orders in a form it can understand.
