Produce 440v 3 phase power in a home shop with 220v single phase power source.

Produce 440v 3 phase power in a home shop with 220v single phase power source.

Hello, can anyone give me some advise on how to produce 440v 3 phase power in a home shop with 220v single phase power source. The goal is to power a Hardinge lathe which has a 440v volt 3 phase motor.

Because it is a small shop I would prefer the most direct approach. Based on my research I have discovered the following options.

    1) Rewire Motor to 220v 3 phase and use a VFD.

    2) VFD Option - 220v 1 phase in 440v 3 phase out into lathe. Not sure if these exist as I have not found any on ebay.

    3) Transformer and VFD Option - 220v 1 phase into transformer, 440v 1 phase out of transformed into VFD, 440v 3 phase out of VFD into lathe

    4) VFD into Transformers configured into "Open-Delta" configuration option - 220v 1 phase into VFD, 220v 3 phase out into "Open-Delta" transformers, 440 3 phase out into late.

Any help would be appreciated. I am also in Ontario Canada if anyone can recommend local solutions.

    Thanks!

Re wire motor and whatever controls. Run a vfd or phase converter. Otherwise you would need to run a huge phase converter then a step up transformer. Never seen a single phase step up that goes to 440/480.

Might be more cost effective to get a new motor
