    Question Fanuc controller number and letter explanations?

    Howdie!

    A newbie machinist question on Fanuc controllers. I tried to search this topic on internet and on this forum, but had no results.

    So in which order are Fanuc controllers released? I mean, is bigger number always more advanced and more expensive version of Fanuc controller?

    I have seen or read about Fanuc-6T, 0T, 16-iPA, 18T, 18-TC, 18M, 180-TC, 21T.

    Is 0T the oldest or is it like year (200)0 version of Fanuc? Is 180 "better" than 21 or just an updated 18?

    What I've heard so far about letters:

    T = turning
    TC = turning center?
    M = milling
    iPA = no idea
    i = no idea

    I'd like to know a little about this Fanuc logic behind their naming habits. It's like I would go to a car shop without knowing that BMW 520i ain't the same car as BMW M5.

    By the way - why can't I find any Fanuc Operators manuals in pdf-format. Are they sold only in printed format for some reason? Fanuc www-sites don't seem very informative either. Doesn't seem very user friendly or inspiring...

    Any help is appreciated! :wave:

    There is a previous post by Dan Fritz here which explains the lineage of the Fanuc controllers, There is not all that much rhyme or season to the order, except one that doesn't exist because the number is bad luck in Japanese.
    Send me an email address via Pm on the manuals.
