    Gcode Optimization

    Hey guys.... question ;

I have a small part file - a 5 X 5" X.25 engraving file I reverse engineered from GCode but the file is huge for what it is.....

The code file is point to point - in other words if the bit traverses 5" in the Y axis on the same Z height- there is a code for every position of the tool (in like .001 incraments) instead of the part file just stating Y1.0, Y5.0

Is ther any software to optimize a file like this ?? The part file has 350000 goto's (lines) I have tried to do it in Visual Mill but cannot.........

Any ideas, help suggestions are appreciated

    Thanks Guys

    Tom M

you could convert it to autocad file using qview, then use pedit to join all the lines, then aceconverter to convert it back to gcode.

    I wish it wouldn't crash.

    Ninewgt,

You have Bobcad don't you? Have you tried pasting the file into the NC window, and then highlighting all the code, and picking the option "geometry from NC"?

Providing your original code contains only industry standard ISO G00, G01, G02 and G03, it should backplot it (but you have to make sure the driver config that is current matches the output format of your original file)

If you can get it into Bobcad as a drawing, then there is an optimize function that may reduce a lot of the lines, etc.

    Good luck.

Sounds like you need some real 3d software to make the code to start with.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

    Hey HuFl.....

No - I no longer am a Bobcad user .......

I downloaded the GCode file from the web - its a small engraving of Jesus with the crown of thorns....... I tried everytool I had in Visual Mill - no luck at all...... I tried playing with it in the OneCNC demo I have and it seems to lock up the program when I open it.....

Im not sure what to do with the file......... kinda stumped - Id love to cut it...

Art at ability systems had some ideas..... but I have to call him.

YES - I need some real 3-d stuff... kinda wish Id have bought OneCnc - the more I play with the demo the more I like it but Im not sure it could do it ????

    Nine,

I'm not sure about the approach you are attempting to take by "forward engineering" what sounds like a point cloud or something. I'm not too up on the artsy type of stuff, myself, so I can't give you any helpful advice.

Does art pay good money, or do you have to be dead first?

Do you know if it is all 2d or is it say coined so the code will have 3d moves?
If it is suppose to look coined then this why it is so big.
you need a way to reverse this.

Can you put te file on the ftp and give us as much info as possable like size of block and tool if possable.

If it is 3d I would like to run it thru Varicut and see if I can get a Iges file that I can recute and filter.

Just let me know and if so I will give it a try over the weekend.
