    Haas "x diameter measure" problem

I'm extremely confused with the "x dia. measure" feature. I sure hope someone can enlighten me as I've spent the best part of the day on this. I have a gang tool set up on the TL-1 lathe with 4 place turret. After setting up the first tool to center drill everything worked fine.

After centering the second tool, a drill bit, and pressing the "x dia. meas." button the correct x offset is entered in the offset block initially, but the screen prompts to enter the diameter. After entering the diameter the value changes, which locates the drill off center. I'm new to Haas and really like what I see so far, but this really has me confused.

Really grateful if someone could enlighten me with this situation.

The diameter for a drill would generally be entered as zero. And if it's a new machine you can just press f2, and get centerline automatically.

Thanks Viking. If I remember correctly, after pressing f2 nothing happened. I'll take another look tomorrow. Really appreciate the response.

Enter zero diameter for a center cutting tool such as a drill or tap..

I see you got it figured out but I wanted to share the explanation we use when standing at the machines at school. The "enter diam" statement is asking you "what diameter is being cut RIGHT NOW", then the number you type in is cut in half to shift the tool to the center of the workpiece. The machine knows that's what you're trying to do for a turning tool, assuming you're programming at the center of the workpiece of course.

For a drill/etc I just look at the machine coordinate page then copy down the current position into the X offset. But you can also just tell the machine it's cutting at zero diameter too, whatever works..
