I have been changing the 3.6 volt turret drive battery once a year, which can easily forgotten about. Then comes all the issues of reloading the parameters back into the drive.

What do you guys think if I install a larger battery such as the one in the link, will it last longer or harm the drive at all?

The battery in the link is the same voltage, but it is a D cell. The standard battery is AA size.
I have also attached a photo of the standard AA battery.

A larger cell at the same voltage will, of course, provide more amp-hours. Buying NEW batteries from a reliable source would be a better idea, though.
Batteries have a shelf life.
Surplus batteries are ones that were bought from their manufacturer after their first year on shelf. They might sit on the surplus store's shelf another year before getting sold to a "battery house"
By that time, one year is all you might expect to get from a new-to-you battery.
By from a source you trust...even then, on a one shift shop, the battery is being drained for 16 hours.
