Hello all.

My laser machine started arcing when its engraving. I observed it was arcing at the power supply unit especially when i press the test fire button and the power is set above 50%. I have read suggestions on this forum but my problem is that this laser machine does not have an ammeter where i could see how much mA the PSU is outputting. Now when i press the test fire button the laser tube remains idle, there is no purple light on it but there is a hiss sound on the power supply.


Please could anyone advice me on what to do??

what machine is it?? it sounds like your power supply is out and you need a new one . but I would recommend also to put a mA meter ( 50mA) in the negative ( black or blue) line of the laser tube.
you probably also need a new tube

Hello herby,

Do i have to break the cathode connection to measure that?? If i connect one end of the meter to the black/blue cable where does the other end of the meter go??

Can i use a clamp meter to measure it??

hi stiyke
yes the thin wire what goes to the side on the tube where the beam comes out ( this is one side of the meter, and the other side of the meter goes to the powersupply), but cut this wire somewhere inside and put eventually extension wire on it . don't cut the thick red wire!
no a clamp on will not work.
this mA meter ( best a analog) should always be connected and you need to make sure that the current does not go over 25mA or you will destroy your tube in just a few hours.
