    Red face Silly Question

I have aquired a old cnc pick and place unit witch I intend to convert to 3D cnc / mill ?
BUT it uses 2 sevo motors with encoders for one axis one on each side Attachment 248076
Can I set up the artsoft to use two motors and encoders on one axis ?
    any advise thanks John

I think you are confusing artcam with mach3 (artsoft?)

It can use 2 motors for 1 axis, I don't know if it will read the encoders or not.

If the servo drives that the machine has take step/dir then you can use Mach3, find out what Servo Drives/motors you have, also if the Encoders goes to the Servo Drive or to the control, this will tell us what you need to do

    Re: Silly Question

Just slave the one motor off the other, the encoder is just feedback to keep the co-ordinates absolute,

    Re: Silly Question

Ok have issue with servo drivers cannot get information on inputs or how to use as is proprietary for the machine maker and the manufacture will not give any details out?

So considering replacing servos with steppers as servo drivers too expensive for 3 off

Can anyone advise if the torque of 13 kg-cm on the servo motor would be measured the same way on a stepper motor or different?

E.g. the servo is the max torque before stall and the stepper max holding torque as trying to find equivalent power!
    Thanks john
