    G540 fault light

Hi, I have a G540 that is about 4 years old and has always worked flawlessly. I am controlling it via a CANC CNC interface and operate as a plasma and a router. Last week, during a job the machine stopped moving...however, Mach continued to advance the DRO's as if it was still running. Knowing that the system is open loop I looked into the control cabinet and seen that the fault light was lit on the G540. Because I am using the CAND system I do not use the charge pump option so I have it selected to the off position on the drive. I then moved the charge pump selector switch to the on position and then back to the off position and the fault cleared. I restarted the job and it finished as normal. Today, it did it again? Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Scott Sutton

    Re: G540 fault light

    Hi Scott

with the charge pump circuit switched off and enable terminal 10 connected to ground terninal 12 via your E stop switch

the fault detector circuit could be triggered by an overload caused by a damaged G250 driver or motor cable -
(check the stepper motor cables for damage , try it with all motors disconnected)

    or over voltage being detected
if you are using a 48V switch mode power supply some times they fail to regulate and the output goes over 48V

have you contacted Gecko drive ?

most G540's have 4 identical G250 stepper drivers
if tests prove one of the G250's is faulty
it can be removed and the G540 will work as a 3 axic control until the 4th driver is repaired or replaced

(1 version of the G540 had the step and direction connections crossed and needed a reprogrammed G250 on 1 axis )
