Gecko G540 DB9 to bipolar stepper wiring

    Greetings,

I can be very dense at times, I cannot seem to correlate the terms A, A/, B, B+ (stepper diagram) to A+, A-, B+, B- (G540 pinout table). There are a few previous discussions that address, but the stepper wire colors they reference are different
Could someone more experienced at reading wiring diagrams and wiring steppers take a look at the diagram and tell me if I have the wires/pins correct? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Gregg

since the wire colours used are not the same on all motors

use a multimeter to check for continuity between the four motor wires

once you find the 2 wires going to each coil you can wire one coil to A+ and A -
and the other coil to B+ and B -

without the data sheet for the motor you don't know the phasing of the motor windings
and you may have to change the motor direction active high / low setting in mach 3
to get the motor to rotate in the correct direction when you set up your machine

Re: Gecko G540 DB9 to bipolar stepper wiring

I have a 4 wire (8 total wire ends) motor. I have the basic red, green, black and blue wires. Then there is the white and brown. The brown is a motor ground...no worries there. Not sure how to it relates to the controller though. the white is all of the end leads (common ground) and not sure where to connect that one. Do they have pin assignees? Are they just grounded on the controller some how? Where do they belong? Attachment 253626

Please forgive belated reply. I do have the wiring diagram (tried to attach). I guess what you are saying is: hook it up one way or the other and then change rotation if required.

For some reason I don'Attachment 253646Attachment 253646t think the diagram I tried to attach worked the first time
