Is it feasible to cut out letters from candle wax?

I want to cut out letters from a sheet of 6mm candle wax. Would using a laser make good cuts without damaging the letter like melting it?

Why don't you try it and let us know how it worked?

Or you could cut a cavity in something like ldpe or polypro and pour the wax in. Pop them out when they cool and your good to go.

I don't have a laser. I am thinking of buying one but I need it to be able to cut out letters from 6mm candle wax that look relatively nice. I don't want to spend so much money and then find out it's not doable. If anyone has done this before or wouldn't mind doing it as an experiment and telling me what were/are the results, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've scoured the internet looking for examples or stories of this kind of laser cutting and have found nothing.

I would look into hotwire cutting, it may work well. I think laser may be a fire hazard.

Casting does sound like the best way to do it.

I've tried it with sealing wax - and weirdly, it is very very difficult.

The problem (appears to be) that the laser doesn't burn the surrounding wax - it melts it, and the wax just flows in to fill up the hole.

It may be that sealing wax is different from candle wax - but I wouldn't have thought it was that different.

    Hi there,
the post is a bit old,
but i tried cuting some candle wax, as everybody noticed, it melt with the laser and resolidify just after,.
I was wondering if anyone had found a solution to cut it.
I was thinking that maybe if we added in the wax a chemical that would extend the solidification time so we could extract the cut before it solidify again?

Seems like a terrible idea using a laser on something that melts, lasers generate tremendous heat where they cut...

Try cutting it with wire to shape it or a sharp knife, even a cnc machine would be better if you must do it with a machine.

    No, it will melt.
