    upgrade

Hey guys,I would like to upgrade the drivers in my small cnc. It runs 1 KL23H286-20-8B on the z 1 on the x and 2 on the y. They are 2.8 amp ,1.8* 200 step and i think 4.2volt steppers. currently i am running KL3225 drivers which are 2.52 amp units off a 24 volt 6.5 amp power supply. I would like to max the steppers out now and have room to upgrade the steppers later. i think the rule is 20 times power which is 80 volt and i should have 12 amps of power. i might be out to lunch any suggestions?

There are really only two choices for medium sized drivers: Gecko-driver G540 and the THB6064AH. Whatever you do, do NOT buy that cheap garbage TB6560 junk from China.

The G540 is unquestionable the best. Hands down. No contest. Just magic. But it's a bit spendy... And not really designed to be repaired, although they don't typically fry easily and they have a good warranty.

The THB6064AH is a great little chip that does /most/ of what a Geck-drive can do, and it's available as a kit from (:ahem me. The cost is about half, and you can repair it for $10 if you do fry one (unlikely). You have to be good with a soldering iron to put the kit together, and it's not quite as powerful.

Based on what I've seen, it's downhill from there, but I AM rather biased. ,o)

I was hopeing there was a higher voltage driver like these in the 3 amp range.
Is there any like the THB6064AH kit in a higher voltage?

If you really want to run those steppers at 80v, Gecko makes some drivers that would do it; like the G201X, for instance. http://www.geckodrive.com/g201x.html It's not packaged in an all-in-one format like the G-540, though - you'd have to supply your own breakout board, etc.

Nope. If you need a higher voltage / current buy a gecko.
