Running Estlcam under Linux using wine

    Hi CNCZone users

I'm interested in running Estlcam under Linux using the Windows emulator Wine
(Technically I'm using playonlinux which uses wine and winetricks)

I have been able to install and run it after installing the Microsoft .Net inside Wine emulation.
(3D path generation actually works fine)

    Attachment 256548

However there are some graphical issues.
For one the button graphics are missing.
But worse than that, the displaying of the DXF vector graphics are missing rendering the 2.5D portion useless.

I'm also considering CamBam which runs natively under Linux using the mono project.
It does however cost three times as much and seems more complicated to use
(Not impossible to learn and besides it is also more capable than Estlcam)

Does anyone have any tips regarding running Estlcam under Linux?

    Regards Visti Andresen

If your computer has enough memory, you can install windows under a virtual machine.
I use virtual box and it works well for me. I run linux on a windows host, but I imagine it would work as well the other way around.

I have been running Windows XP under virtual box as well as KVM in the past.

However booting and maintaining an entire Windows OS for just one application is somewhat bothersome.
Windows applications started from the Wine emulator on the otherhand starts quickly and requires less upkeep and resources.

As such I was hoping that someone had already gotten Esltcam running 100% under Wine and could point me to the one package/setting I needed.
After all it is running fine apart from graphical glitch the once you install the .Net runtime inside Wine.

But yes I suppose a real Windows running on an emulated PC could be an alternative to dual booting into Windows.
However in that case I would probably prefer paying extra and getting CamBam which has some additional features and is capable of running natively under Linux.

Installing "gdiplus" inside playonlinux / with winetricks seems to have fixed the graphical problem.

But I still need to compile a complete minimal list of extra packages needed.

    Hi talpa,

Does it run now completely with you?
I've been trying for a long time Estlcam under Linux to get to run, unfortunately without success!
Can you tell me how exactly did you install it?
    Which versions?

    regards

    Wolfgang

I got it running on my Laptop, seems to be running fine

Here are some hints for installing it under playonlinux

    * Select a 32bit windows (64 bit may or may not work)

    * Customize the components (winetricks for plain wine) and install the following:
    # POL_Install_directx9
    # POL_Install_dotnet40
    # POL_Install_gdiplus

My laptop also had "POL_Install_corefonts" installed, but when I attempted to verify the installation procedure here on my stationary pc it caused all text to look like it was written in Greek.
Seems to work just fine without the core fonts.

This was verified / attempted using an unregistered "Version 7.622 / 6th May 2015" release.

This works for me too (version 8), but not the text-function. If I add a text, only a view lines and not the text is added.

Works the text-function with your installation under linux?
