Mach3 ports and pin set up need help please

Hello everyone.I had my router running last year and a few months ago I was trying to get another motor working as a 4th axis and I ended up changing the input for the step and dir for all 3 axis.I had a picture of what it was before I changed it but now I cant find it.does anyone know what numbers to use for each axis? I did a search and I tried X-2-3 Y-4-5 Z-6-7 as well as X-1-7 Y-8-3 Z- 5-4.
Does anyone know what numbers I should use and or is there a manual way to figure out what step and dir pin goes with each axis.Your help and suggestions are greatly appreciated

The ports and pins setup is very specific to your machine and the equipment that you are using, driver(s), steppers, rack & pinion, ball screw, etc. Without any of that pertinent information you might as well throw the dice and guess..

The manual for Mach3 contains much of the information that you are seeking and I would suggest giving that a read and then posting back with some more specific questions that the forum can assist with.

Does the break out board determine what pins to use? I emailed the company that I bought it from so maybe they can help. The number on the drivers is DM542 made by act motor I purchased on ebay. The motors are 287 oz bipolar motors. Here is the link to the break out board.

Do I have to contact the company who made the breakout board to find the correct pin asignment?

    dabularach,

Why not post a good image of the breakout board.

That way someone may be able to identify what you have.

I may be wrong, but as I remember(I think, maybe) in the Mach folder there is a area where back up XML files are stored. You may be able to find a prior file that will get you back to where you were.

Thanks guys I just figured out the problem. I got the Y and the Z motor is working properly but the X was giving me a problem. I found one of the wires was loose for the X motor where it went into the driver that fix the problem. Thanks for your help everyone!!
