    Unhappy Edgecam Editor

I'm sure there must be a way to do this, but as with everything Edgecam, it never seems particularly obvious..

I really don't llike the Editor program that comes with Edgecam, I find it pretty crude and it doesn't support standard windows shortcut keys or even a mouse wheel. :tired:

So, does anyone know how I to get Edgecam to default to a different editor? Even notepad is better than Editor...

What version are you using? The wheel works in mine (V10, 10.5, 10.75)

These look like standard Windows commands to me.

Just put your favorit editor in the edgecam\cam folder and rename it to EDGENC.EXE
    That should do the trick

The wheel has never worked in properly in mine, from V.5 up to V10.75! Nor on any of my collegues PCs... it does work if you wheel slowly, but try and skim through a program and it goes a bit mental and flips all over the place.

    CTRL-A doesn't work. (select all)
CTRL-H doesn't work. (find and replace)
    Others too.
Also no backplotter, which is a huge drawback, and a complete lack of useful commands like 'delete blank lines', you can't bookmark lines, and lots of things I'd expect to find in a NC editor.

Nothing wrong with it per se, I just find it a bit basic.

Nice idea Bent, just tried it and that did the trick. Ta!

Ah, wait, no.. changing the filename doesn't work.

It'll open the different editor program, but it won't load in the NC file. (i.e., if I run the post processor, it'll open up my alternative editor but the NC output won't load into it.)

Isn't there just an option somewhere to choose a different editor path?

    Ditto - great tip!
    Works for me.

@ Inflateable: Does your alternative editor open a file when the filename is passed on the command line?

Now that you mention it the wheel in the Edgecam editor is a little squirly when you roll it to fast. I thought it was a mouse driver problem. But my other editor works OK.

You can add your editor to the toolbar as an Icon. Here is a self executing video on how to do it. Just drop it on your desktop and double click the file to start the video.

    andy,

If you mean if I put the path of a nc program in the 'run' window, then yes my other editor (which is Predator btw) opens it fine.

I see where you're coming from, something peculiar there.
