Laser engraver power supply wiring help needed

All, I have a K40 type laser engraver and am replacing the laser power supply. Two questions: ( I had tried to post attachments of the power supply, but received an error when trying to upload).

    1) I have heard a ballast resistor is needed in the circuit for the laser. With my new power supply is that still required? If it is, where should it be placed in the wiring?

    2) On the larger wire that goes to the laser tube, there is a white plastic connector - but I don't have the mating connector for the other side. does anyone know where to source this connector? In the meantime I may slip silicone tubing over the wire connections for insulation until I can get the right part.

    Thanks for your help!
