    Collet movement??

    Hi,

I have been using a collet chuck with an HSK 63 back end and a 25mm multichange tool loaded into it. The collet is 24-25mm and I've tightened it as much as I can. When I use a spanner on the tip and apply some force I am able to turn the tool in the collet.

This doesn't seem right to me and I would have thought that it was not possible to turn a tool in a tightened chuck... or am I wrong?... I have dismantled the chuck assembly and given it a good clean in the thought that something may be preventing it from tightening properly but the same is possible after cleaning.

Could this indicate wear on the collet or something else.... I'm a bit reluctant to spin it in the CNC if it may "spin out".

    Any advice would be great.

    Mike

There are many different types of collets. You should also have the torque wrench set up for tightening collets, they last longer, hold better, and don't spring like what I think is happening to yours.

Is the collet in the HSK installed properly in the nut?

Thanks for the replies, I think it's an ER40 chuck? The collet is sitting neatly in the nut but I did notice it doesn't snap in to the offset ring quite as securely as the others.
