MPG: Can I hook up directly to JP6... MPG is 5vdc logic? Do I need to use Resistors?

    Greetings,

On my milling machine, I want to add a MPG.

MPG: Can I hook up directly to JP6...
    MPG is 5vdc logic?
Do I need to use Resistors inline to each input, to drop the signals to 3.3 volts?

Does anyone have a schematic to share, that shows this... on JP6?

    Sincerely,

    Hi jeffserv,

KFLOP 3.3V inputs can be damaged if driven higher than 3.8V. However in most cases you can connect 5V TTL signals directly to them. 5V TTL signals are only required to drive higher than 2.8V. Unfortunately they don't usually specify the maximum they will drive. To test connect a 150ohm load to the output and check the high voltage with a voltmeter. If it is less than 3.8V then it can be connected directly without a problem. I have never heard of a case where it is a problem.
