    Artcam Pro or Aspire

I am looking to buy cnc software that will support 4 axis machining. I am looking to do mostly complicated 3d work with pictures, and I have been looking to buy either Artcam pro or Aspire. Looking in all of the forums people seem to discuss most of the 2d to 2.5d features and benefits, but i would like to know which software has the best 3d modeling/machining features. My cnc router is just a 3 axis router with a rotating attachment, so i guess it is 4 axis machining. I am going to be carving out pictures, sculptures, wall hangings, and other types of 3d signs. I have seem more about artcam pro as far as 3d modeling goes, but i would like some other opinions about what would be best.
    Thanks,
    Troy

Take a look at DeskProto. It's not really for modeling, although it has some 2D to 3D functionality, but it works great for producing 4-axis G-code from your 3D models.

I always recommend downloading both trials and see which one you like best.
Keep in mind that ArtCAM Pro probably costs at least twice as much as Aspire. They don't list the current price on their site, but it used to be almost 4x the price of Aspire.

artcam pro cost 4x, but theres insignia with almost same features.. (on some point more, on some point might less)
    that cost 2500

I personally using express 150, and all 2d toolpath, vcarving relief machining, possible to import all meshtype model

for modeling I using silo3d and 3d coat..

silo 80 at this time, and 3d coat for home use 100

modeling with aspire or artcam pro, not what you going to learn quick,... to making a model of a human portrait will take you an about two year journey... if anyway get trough..

most folks buying models, and making only the simpler..

also, many modeling program already free.. like blender, or sculptris.. they are not behind paid programs..

the 4th axis... while its a great thing both program has ""wrapping"" function, it actually can be done with very little effort with other programs too..
I made test with cut2, cut3 and artcam express.. all 3 can wrap toolpath..
however for real 4 axis machining, you need a real camprogram, like visualmill or deskproto ..

also deskproto as I know makes it for 150

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the same guy who wrote Aspire also the guy who had a hand in creating ArtCAM? (may have that backwards)

They look very similar from screenshots

    something like that..
a couple of employee of delcam, (artcam) tought they can do it better..
they left the company and now they have own sw company...

heres some topics from both forum..

The ArtCAM Forum - Community help, support and advice for the ArtCAM family of CADCAM software ? View topic - Post dilemma
Vectric Forum ? View topic - VCarve looks like other software ?

delcam actually linked to Cambridge.. so there were converging always some highly educated folks..
they started out about '65... 50 years ago...
their logo... also a story.. gavin miller, in 1984 just because he seen a spider, he modeled it.. even the fur modeled..
    and simply toolpathed...

and all this before artcam or powershape or any known program..
unfortunately gavin miller left delcam and went over apple..

look for his website, and youll see some miracoulus things..
