    Shizuoka AN-S mill control retrofit

I'm considering upgrading my Yasnac 3000g control on my Shizuoka AN-S knee mill.

This mill is in my hobby shop not a production shop.

Looking at Centroid, Acu-rite, Mach motion, Camsof, and a few others.

Would appreciate hearing what others have done in upgrading their older controllers and how they like the new control.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

Does anyone have a recommendation as to what aftermarket control to put on my mill?
    Thanks,

A lot depends on how much ability you have in the area and also cost factor?
There is Mach, which is about the cheapest/simplest to Camsoft with Linux and Kmotion in between, it also depends on whether you are looking to integrate any of the existing electronics, drives/motors etc.

Al, Don't mind spending a reasonable amount of $$$ but want a simple conversational control that can also take post process g-code. Also want to do the retrofit my self so simplicity would be a big factor. From what I understand my servos/encoders will need to be replaced, but maybe not. The existing Yasnac 3000G works fine so I would like to use the servos/encoders.
So based on this what direction should I take. Centorid, Camsoft, Mach, Mach Motion, etc.
    Thanks for some direction.

You would have to first look into how the drives are controlled or the nature of the command signal, able to use step/dir or ±10vdc analogue.
Or at least use the motors themselves.
I am not familiar with those actual drives.

Here are some photos of the servomotor. Does this provide what you were looking for. The mill is running on 3 ph 220vac.

It appears that it could be DC brushed motors? the encoder could be used but is 12v and probabally open collector so it would need a RS485 differential driver IC.
Do you have 3ph in your shop or thinking of converting it?

I have a rotary converter that will handle 15 hp total.

You may know this already, but you need to ensure the 2 phases that originate the single phase circuitry in the enclosure comes from the the two 1ph lines feeding the RPC.

I recall when I initially wired up the mill I had to get the right phases to make it work correctly. What is the RPC?

Based on what's I learning, It looks like I'm narrowing the retrofit to Centroid/Ajax or MachMotion. Any thought as to what would be best for my hobby shop mill?

The local Centroid shop determined that my servo motors would work with their control but I would need new encoders.
Still not sure what control to use. Thinking of putting one together using off the shelf parts rather than buying a package like Ajax has. Any thoughts on putting a control together?
